What's God got to do with Leadership?
Just Curious -- have you ever, just for a moment, wondered if believing in God has anything to do with being successful and having a solid family?
Wait! I know what you’re thinking – >
If you’re a Christian, you’re probably thinking something like. “Well DUH!
It’s about time he mentioned the Almighty! I’ve been checking this website for three months now and everyday -- nothing but self-help junk. I’m looking for ways to allow my family to grow stronger in the strength of the Lord. I believe it’s impossible to help ourselves. We must depend on the Holy Spirit. And if you’re a heathen,--no wait, let me take that back. If you’re not typically in church on Sunday, you’re probably thinking, “Oh Man!
I was just getting something out of this website and he has to go and mention God. All I want to do is make lots of money, have a happy marriage, kids who don’t drink, do drugs, or get pregnant, lots of grandkids and a decent retirement.” I don’t need a “relationship” with the man upstairs for that!
I’ve got good news for both of you! I am going to make the case that“faith” is vital to raising a great family but I’m also going to explore the idea that God isn’t going to do the work of raising our families for us. It takes work!
Blind Faith?
The word faith has been used and abused in a lot of different ways (most of the time by Christians) but at the end of the day it all boils down to believing in a set of facts strongly enough to take action.
Having faith doesn’t mean that you blindly follow some mystical force that will magically make you rich and your family perfect.
No, in this case, having faith simply means forming a set of beliefs about God strong enough to motivate you to action.
It’s about understanding who He is, and how He relates to His creation.
Honestly evaluating the facts and taking decisive action form the basis for the entire root structure of our firm family tree. Earlier, I mentioned that faith was the taproot of a firm family tree. All of the other root decisions grow from this decision to create a solid base.
Remember -- strong belief leads to decisive action.
- Growth - Once you grasp the fact that you were created with unlimited potential, it's almost impossible not to want to push the limits, to "Be all that we can be".
- Priorities - A strong belief that we have "eternity written on our hearts" and that there's an author of a much larger story than our own will lead us to remove short-term distractions and focus on long-term things like -- Oh I don't know-- Family!
- Family - A strong belief that a man and a woman, were created and charged with loving each other, having children and training those children to add value to the world around them, will lead to strong marriages, improved parenting, etc..
- Relationships - A strong belief that all people are created by God and therefore valuable to Him will lead to the action of placing value on those around us and treating them with respect.
- Thinking - A strong belief that God took the time to reflect on His creation will lead to the action of taking the time develop our creativity and developing the habit of reflective thinking.
- Health - The creator gifted us with strength, flexibility, and energy.........Run, Marvin, Run!
- Wealth - For some odd reason I seem to have the gift of writing. To develop that gift and use it to generate abundance isn't selfish; it's my gift to Him. The best way to help the poor is not to be one of them.
- Leadership -- God wants everyone to understand who He is and how he relates to them. Because I believe this I'm taking the action of learning to expand my influence -- starting with my family.
Hey, you don’t have to join a monastery or shave your head. Just spend sometime exploring the facts about who God is, and then begin to formulate a set of beliefs about how He relates to you. Deepening this root will do more to strengthen your personal and family development than anything else you’ll find on this site.
