24 Creative Thinking Killers

How to destroy your family's ability to think outside the lines

If you don't embrace creative thinking, and I mean right now -- There's no way you're going to communicate effectively with your family? I mean really, I'm trying to compete with television, nintendo, i-phone, and facebook just to remain relevant much less influential.

In Thinking for a Change John Maxwell lists 24 "creativity killers" - phrases that are guaranteed to kill your ability to communicate effectively.

  • "I'm not a creative person"
  • "Follow the rules"
  • "Don't ask Questions!"
  • "Don't be different"
  • "Stay within the lines"
  • "There is only one way!"
  • "Don't be foolish"
  • "Be Practical"
  • "Be Serious"
  • "Think of your image!"
  • "That's not logical"
  • "It's not practical"
  • "It's never been done!"
  • "It can't be done!"
  • "It didn't work for them"
  • "We tried that before!"
  • "It's too much work"
  • "We can't afford to make a mistake!"
  • "It will be too hard to manage"
  • "We don't have time"
  • "We don't have the money"
  • "Yes, but......"
  • "Play is frivolous"
  • "Failure is final"

Sound familiar?

I've declared war on thinking, saying, or even listening to these kinds of statements. My mission is to improve my ability to influence my family and creative thinking is my weapon of choice.
