A Leadership Pledge of Allegience

I've been trying this morning to define my leadership philosophy and values in 30 words or less.

I'm doing this for a couple of good reasons.

First of all, the girls have been memorizing the pledge of allegiance to the American flag this week and about the millionth time I realized that it pretty well summarizes what this country is/used to be about --

  • One Nation
  • Under God
  • Indivisible
  • Liberty
  • Justice

It gives Jeanie and I a pretty good launching pad for discussing the reasons for America's greatness and success.

Secondly, I recently came across a thought provoking blog post from Remarkable Leadership where Kevin Eikenberry gives a "how-to" on creating a personal pledge of allegiance -- something that will keep my values "centered, focused, influential, and persuasive." If you want to know more about putting something like this together check out Kevin's Blog

So, here is my rough draft ...

I pledge allegiance to my Family, and to the God in which we trust, Personal Growth, One Man/One Woman , training future Leaders, with encouragement and stability for all.

It summarizes my values well, gives me a launching pad for discussing them with others, and if recited every day will keep me centered, focused, influential, and persuasive.
