Marriage Book Review
"Love & War" John & Staci Eldredge
I tend to agree with the thinking produced the following quote..."Marriage is a lottery in which men stake their liberty and women their happiness." ~ Madame Virgine de Rieux, 16th century French writer
Authors John & Staci Eldredge put it this way..."Why on earth would you come to church and publicly dedicate yourselves to something so risky, so fraught with danger, so scandalous?"
If you're married or about to be married -- It's "perfect madness" not to read; Love & War: Finding The Marriage You've Dreamed Of
The Eldredges assert that "in choosing to wed you have chosen an assignment at the frontlines of the epic battle for the human heart." The message? "It can be done. And it IS worth it!
If you believe this message (and I do) it's impact will be felt not just in your marriage but in every area of your leadership...
- Attitude -- "It can be done" and it IS worth it."
- Time Management --Avoid the temptation of losing your best self in your work -- and making it "your mistress".
- Physical Health --Believing that you and your spouse are involved in an epic battle and exciting adventure will motivate you to become stronger and more passionate about taking care of yourself.
- Parenting --Give your kids the gift of knowing that a strong and exciting marriage is a possibility.
- Thinking --"Overcome the clouded perception of opposition to love and remember together the desire that is written on your hearts."
- Commitment --Develop the vision that although "Love is hard" and faces incredible opposition that will demand everything you have. "It can be done and it IS worth it!"
- Wealth --More money = more options for finding ways to build companionship with your spouse.
- Faith --"God loves intimacy, friendship, unity, self-sacrifice, laughter, pleasure, joy, and the picture of His romance you're presenting to the world".
- Relationships --Your friendships help you return home with something to give instead of taking all the time
- Generosity --The kindest thing to do for those you love is to give them someone who loves and understands their deepest desires.
- Growth --Develop the purpose of learning how to love and the desire to become better almost takes care of itself
Marriage is "a love story, set in the midst of war. Love is our destiny and all hell is set against it." But It can be done. And it IS worth it.!"
